good article. One thing, though... I've caught hundreds upon hundreds of eastern painteds, well into the eastern edges of their range (not near the midland painteds), along the eastern edge of pennsylvania, eastern maryland, etc... and it was not too uncommon to find hatchlings with plastron markings. I never noticed them on adults really, that I can remember, but they were definately easterns and they definately had plastral blotches. I remember one had someone fancy plastral markings, with the lobes of black off of the center mark...
