Southern painted turtles live in many states north of you. You are on southern tip of LA also. So your S. painteds can be left out year round.

:I currently have 2 southern pained, 2 maps, and 2 RES. I am looking at building a pond around 600-800 gal around 8'x5'x2'deep. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what they can take as far as low temps?? I live in New Orleans Louisiana so the winter is never really bad here. I know summertime is ok but should I or do I need to heat the pond in the winter and cover it at night is it gets real cold??? Or is that a bad idea and I should not keep them outside year round??
