I was just on the NJHS web site. I see now that it is illegal to buy or sell a Box turtle in NJ or own one that was collected in the state. Is it also illegal to keep one in NJ that was purchased or collected out of state? I'm not clear on this.
It is stated in the N.J. Regulations for the Possession of Nongame & Exotic Wildlife that:
"Periodic inspections shall be made by Division designated personnel and shall consist of examination of exotic mammals, birds, reptiles or amphibians, or nongame species, holding pen and exhibit area, and a review of relevant records pertaining to these species. "
What does that mean? Are they talking about private individuals or zoos or stores or what? I don't want a bunch of state goons knocking on my door every couple of months!
