It did not have a rattle. We only saw the back half of the snake, but estimate the length around 3ft long. Not want to have a confrontation with the snake, but still wanted to press on, I gave the snake a nudge with my walking stick. It moved a little, but was still blocking the path. After a minute or two I gave it another nudge in which it cleared the path, but then proceeded to hiss and make spitting sounds loudly. We waited a little longer and the snake decided to go on its way and so did we.

: Question: any idea what kind of snake it was? We kind of think it may have been an Eastern Hognose, but none of the pictures had the diamond pattern and we didn't see the head of the snake (nor did we really want to. We just wanted to go on our way safely).
