Well, I just got a sneak preview of the article they are printing in Veterinary Economics Magazine about NIAD.

Just to catch everybody up on this, Veterinary Economics Magazine is read by about 50,000 subscribers (mainly vet clinics). It's just a small article, but I think for as brief as it was, they nailed it! :) Anyway, I think it will be a very effective way of getting the word out and I plan on sending them a very big thank you letter for writing the article.

It was from the September 1999 issue and it was written by Elizabeth A. Brown, Senior Associate Editor.

"Client Education - Do iguana owners need your guidance?
While visiting a pet store, a client sees a six-inch iguana and thinks, "Wouldn't that be a cute pet?" She doesn't realize that under the right conditions, the animal will grow as long as six feet. To educate owners about iguana care, celebrate National Iguana Awareness Day on Sept. 11.
Many iguanas die within two years because owners don't know how to care for them. So teach clients about proper housing and diet, heat and light requirements, and vitamin needs. Encourage new owners to bring iguanas in once a year for parasite checks, routine blood work, and a comprehensive exam.
To educate people considering these exotic pets, volunteer to give a presentation at a local pet store or your clinic. You also can download educational pamphlets for clients and pet store owners by visiting www.niad.org."
