Getting Down to the Nitty Gritty - What is your state planning?

Hello all,

I thought I would take this opportunity to share with everyone a few ideas we've discussed here for Cal-NIAD
and ask for information on what other states are planning as well. Here's our three items, in random order:

The Mailing List - I'm sure everyone is doing this, but
we're about to compile a mailing list for our state of pet stores, vets, zoos, and herp societies to sending out info and ask for support/volunteers for next year as we get closer to the big day.

The Pet Store Survey - We will most likely be conducting a survey of pet stores in our area, rating them with a set list of criteria (ie, husbandry, accuracy of information, general health of iguanas for sale, what terrarium set-ups they recommend, etc.).
Basically, we will rate them, kind of like the health dept. rates restaurants. Those we find to have satisfactory standards will receive a letter from us and a poster to put up in their store about NIAD. Those we find unsatisfactory will receive a different information packet detailing what they did wrong, basically, and asking them to up their standards (of course, all this will be said in a much more PC fashion). If at all possible, we will send someone back to that location in 4-6 weeks to see if they've made any improvements. We may also list pet stores scores on our web site.

The Information Booth - probably won't do this until spring or summer of next year, but we would like to set up info. booths in public locations with literature, lists of local vets, exhibit iguanas and NIAD T-shirts and posters to sell. If we can find a local vet to volunteer once or twice, we might have a free iguana check up or something like that as well.

Well, I'm really curious to hear what ideas have come up in the rest of the world. Talk to you all soon!

Cristine
