Poster funding thoughts

Hi, All,
I had a few thoughts as to how to fund posters and other such fun stuff. Not sure if these things are appropriate, but here goes:
What does everyone think about the idea of asking (good) pet stores and vet clinics if they would like to sponsor NIAD? They would fund the making of, say, the posters, and in return, they would get the name of their business on our t-shirts, posters, what have you. Sort of 'such and such pet store proudly sponsors National Iguana Awareness Day'.
Also, does anyone know exactly what steps we would have to take to put donation boxes in pet stores and such? I think you have to be legally filed as a non profit organization to be able to legally put out donation boxes. Has anyone thought about taking the steps to file as one? Like I said, I'm not sure if any of these things are appropriate, they are just a few thoughts to toss into the kettle, so to speak.
Best, Jamie
