i think, in a 100 gallon, they could easily deal with a filter. i wouldn't use and undergravel filter, because that necessitates using gravel, which is no good for axys. i just use a plain old whisper 1, in a much smaller aquarium, and my guys do fine. in a 100 gallon, you could use a filter without any problem. if you see them gettig swept around by the current, they like big rocks, plants, floating plants, caves, etc. to hide in, and (if the current is strong, but i doubt it) brace against (a plain glass floor is hard to get a hold on).
