In Reply to: How do aquatic Sals on a worm diet get their calcium? posted by CeeTee on May 03, 2003 at 16:56:38:
:I'm talking about black or bloodworms
In general as long as the salamander is getting a balanced diet then there seems to be little problems with calcium metabolization.
So far to date I am unaware of any metabolic bone disease or similar issues resulting from these two food items ( I have not seen any documentations for MBD from this food source as of yet so it may occure). That said I (and several other people I know) have reared many different species on these as a food source with no signs of MBD (which I can say is not true for enchytraeus). These food items may have a sufficent balance for caudates. (If I remember correctly most of the MBD and MBD like cases in CAudates have mainly come from feeding too much high vitamin A foods (like pinks).
