I have a clump of about 20 eggs of some sort. I took them from a small vernal pool, really a tire track, that was drying up. There were still a huge amount of eggs in the vicinity. I am still trying to identify them... there are about 20 eggs, in a cluster, each egg is about as wide as your computer screen cursor, a yellowish white jelly with a black and white embryo. They are all encased in a gel-like substance, which rules out most frogs around here so Im guessing theyre sals. My question is on feeding the new metamorphs once hatched; i noticed some tiny stick-like creatures swimming in the vernal pools, are these daphnae, and are they a good food source? If it helps in IDing them, I live in western NY state.
