That is an amazing looking color variant! Very cool. It also appears that the skin texture is different than normal, although I think that males of this species get a different skin texture during mating season. I have no idea if he is a genuine "hypo" but I have heard of unusually light colored newts of other species too.

:A friend of mine found this beautiful male (and his normal female friend) in the Los Angeles area. They have already been released, but if anyone has any input on this male, it would be appreciated.

:Is he hypo? Is anyone familiar with this in newts?

:I'm going to try to post all eight photos here, but if they don't work, I'll post them individually.
