I'm afraid I still work in feet and inches so 10 gallon tank doesnt mean much to me!!! But use the one that will make the less water current as flowing water stresses axolotls.As for food I use salmon pellets,earthworms,the odd cricket,I dont use mammalian meat as its not a natural food source.Your set up seems fine although you may want to use larger sized pebbles so the axy will have something to grip other than the glass,just make sure they are too large for him to swallow!
