I just got my 55 gal vivarium set up and would like to start adding some inhabitants. Right now, it has a crayfish and 2 basset's cricket frogs that I got down at the creek to help cycle the tank. However, I set it up with the intention of getting eastern newts.
The big problem is that I've been out looking for them in the woods (efts and adults) at least ten times and have yet to even see one. So, I guess I might have to buy them. I've been pretty disapointed with what little I've seen here in Charlotte, NC at the pet stores. I would really like to get a couple eastern efts with the bright orange skin. If anyone could direct me to a good source for some, or tell me how/where to find them in the wild, I would really appreciate it. And also some lighter colored adults
Also, would it be safe for the newts to keep both eastern efts and adults in the same vivarium? And what about the frogs? I know I should move the crayfish.
