If you'd like to feed your newt the occasional guppy for interest, and variety its ok. They probably wouldn't be able to catch guppies in the wild though, so its not really a realistic food option. When I have fed my newt the occasional guppy I would hold it between tweezers, or my fingers. Its cool to know your newt trusts you, so much that it will eat from your hands.
