:I highly doubt that it was Native Americans because fire sals aren't indiginous to the Americas. I am curious if anyone can say for sure who it was.

::yes, it was native americans, I am almost sure that"salamander" means fire or fire walker in some native language. There's a town near me named Salamanca, wonder if theres a connection.
