Yes, these snakes need to be kept in a plastic bag in your freezer since they don't live in captivity.

They develop a fungus that invariably spreads and kills the snake. Actually when I was researching them about 10 years ago there were 2 zoos that had managed to keep them alive, one in Australia and (I belive) a Chicago zoo. They had built elaborate filtration systems, running the water through layers of filters designed to remove virually everything other than H2O. I don't know how they snakes faired long term.

There might have been some breakthroughs in their care since then though. I read a study on this species that indicated they may only feed once or twice per year, so your food bill won't be great!
