"What are washermachine snakes?" is exactly the question we were asking. Some time ago on this forum a request for identification was submitted. The snake was found in an abondoned house in a washing machine of all places! The name was coined to specifically refer to this snake as descriptions and photos flew back and forth trying to nail it down.
There are so many species and colour varieties of snakes that could be called "water snake" misidentification is a potential hazard.
