After fighting eye infection for months, my male pictiventris has lost the left eye cap, exposing the eye (blind I think). Further, the infection has left an open wound of fair depth behind and above the eye. some (inflamed) portion of the cap is still attached however it is only a remnant. No infection is obvious at this time but that may be due only to the shedding (yesterday) that exposed the eye. I have applied a heavy ointment (anti-bacterial) to hopefully protect and moisturize the eye. This ointment was purchased a few months ago from a vet. It's use was halted (by vet) because open wounds caused by infection later would not dry. Now, I'm using it as a temporary contact lens!?
