Thanks for the link Pierson but it wasn't there. I don't have pic capabilties at the moment unfortunately. Is there any other id points that I could describe for you?

The checkered patterning is bigger than a garter snakes and it lacks stripes of any kind. That was my thought as well, that it was a garter of some kind.

I do like eight miles fromt he Kansas border. Are there any different water snakes up there that normally aren't found in OKlahoma that it could be? Or do juveniles loose a lot of patterning and color as they age?
