: Hi everybody, I'm new here, i'm a french canadian and i do my best in english so please be patient :)
: A few weeks ago when i was making a trip to my local pet shop, buying mealies for my collared lizard, i see this tiny snake in his tiny enclosure moving all around and being curious i just cant resist ;) The owner told me it was a garter snake, he also gave me some hint on how to care for them... I dont trust blindly pet shop owner ...(like most of you i'm sure )lol..i do some research and prepare my enclosure to receive my little snake (about 9 inch) . He do settle well in his new home and eat well too, he gain an inch in a few week.
: One thing that bug me is that i cant pinpoint the exact species of my garter, but from what i read there is a lot of variations in garter. Yesterday i made a trip to my local library and i take a couple of books on snakes and also a "field guide on north american reptile" in the hope of identifying my garter. I did find my snake...but not in the Thamnophis species...but in the Nerodia !!!! Lol my garter was in fact a nerodia fasciata pictiventris... Anyway i hope i'm right this time :) Here is the exact copy of my baby snake...its not his pic but a pic i find that match him almost identically. Anybody have comment on this type of snake or a good web site with some care sheet ?
