Not Basking

My snake doesn't really bask, when I first got her I had a light on her cage a great amount of the day and she would never bask, is it ok that she hybernates during the winter or is it not suggested?? I do keep fish in her water hole (cat box), but she doesn't eat any during the winter. But come spring time she eats like crazy and than slows down after about a week.
Is there anything wrong with this??
