Since I was 12, i have herped in CT. One of the more fascinating species for me to catch or keep has always been the Northern water snake. I think I have been bitten more by this species more than any other snake! I once collected a very large dark specimen who had just recently swallowed a turtle (!) I brought it home, and kept it in the bathtub for a few days, scaring the crap out of my sis...nowadays, they are getting harder to find, but when I do find one, it brings back memories.
