Almost Easter Eggs.................

I have had two clutches of eggs from Tuck (male from Chey) and Lil' Darla (my oldest CB)so far. The first was laid approx. 10/26/02 while we were gone for two days and by the time I got home all 10 eggs were stuck together and they all molded in the incubator, no F1 babies : (

The second clutch was laid 1/26/03 and all but 3 got slimy and pink. I though the 3 remaining eggs were duds too because of the color when I candled them. However, now I can see little shadows in them! If all goes right I could have some F2s in July or August! YEAH ; )

I though 'Lil Darla was done for this bout of producing eggs as she never fattened back up, just filled back out to a normal non-gravid shape, but yesterday I noticed that she had been digging and it looked as though she had been packing the dirt (she was wearing the tell-tale peat moss cap!). The soil was a bit dry so I dug around just to see if she surprised me with a third clutch but found nothing. I changed her water and gave her and Tuck a nice shower to moisten the substrate. Well, tonight when I checked it looked like someone had excavated the entire tank! There were holes and piles everywhere so again, I dug around to take a look. This time I found 7 eggs! 3 look sort of rubbery like the 7 that failed last time but 4 have nice chalky, leathery shells and look like the 3 that are good from the last clutch. If these are good and they survive they should be due anytime during October, too late for the symposium in October where I will be speaking!

So, as you can see, I my Easter eggs arrived a bit early, but perhaps they will produce some F2 babies.

Sorry about the ramble but the forum has been dead so I figure anything that can be posted is something! LOL!

Marcia
