Cyndi,
How heartbreaking to lose that many but I can assure you that I had similar results with my first clutch or two. I Since I have had much better results but the beginning was rough. I have to think that at 5 months "Bob" (and I would love to hear the full name) should be pretty well established and your chances of losing him should be slim.

The horns should just be tiny nubs right now and will seem very slow to develop. The horns and the crest will develop at about the same rate though so as you see the crest grow you will notice the horns more as well. By a 8 months to a year they will look just like miniature adults.

You can probably understand with Bob being so small why I don't sell my babies until they are 4-5 months at the least and I prefer not to sell them until they are 6 months old. Sometimes that even seems a bit young but I have to let go and trust others with my babies. I kind of play it by ear and if a potential buyer appears to be very aware of the needs and willing to learn about the animal first I am more willing to let them go. If an owner is less experience and seems unsure I steer them to the older babies.

I sure hope all goes well with Bob. With all you have been through with the mother and losing all of the other babies you more than deserve one as a companion.

I am looking forward to seeing his pics!

Marcia
