1) Why, its the best basis for a diet you can feed them and its a proven fact not "corner pet store get you out the door and spend money here later suggestions".
It takes alot for them to digest it which in turn causes lethargy and obesity
2) Where did you learn that? Lethargy and obesity are caused by improper husbandry (ie; too low temps, in turn causing lack of digestion).:
Heres some good advice ditch the dog or cat food (the label says dogs and cats), the lunch meat isnt that good for you so dont feed it to them. Im all for variety in monitors diet but make it a variety of whole animal foods crickets, roaches, waxworms, mealworms, mice, chicken peeps, quail, embryonated eggs, rats, etc. Hair, shells, guts, etc add vitamins, minerals, and roughage to their diets. And a healthy monitor can digest almost anything.
