Hopefully this will not apply to you at all. But direct sunlight thru glass is a very efficient way to kill monitors. They somehow do not understand when to move. Hopefully your sun up there is to weak to kill them, but here, it will kill them within minutes, and on very cold days. I think its mentioned in many petshop reptile keeping books, that is a very bad idea.

Again, I hope its not a problem, but i would feel bad if you lost some monitors and I said nothing.

As you know, I have a few dums that I am raising up, they are new to me, so don't take this like am a dums expert or something. But, that cage, looks like the exact opposite of what my dums want. Mine seem to want to burrow and stay in them in the day, and come out and stay in the water at night. Feeding mostly at night. They bask by putting a burrow under the basking lite. They only climb, if I do not have proper burrowing or proper temps. But please, thats only my experience.

If you look at them, they look like anyone of our large watersnakes in the brown, green or diamondback watersnake family. Enlarged, thick scales, same colors, perfer wet mucky substrate, etc. With the ability to bask and dry off. When I see a section of the body sticking out of the substrate, I get an impluse to grab it quick and try to avoid getting musked on and bittin all to hell. Good Luck F
