worried over wax on neck

Is this something I missed when I read up on monitors, or is it a sign of disease? I've got a young black roughneck, about a year old, she's (the sex is a guess) about two and half feet from snout to tail tip. Within two days there's been a sudden appearence of yellow waxy streaks inbetween the large neck scales. Her behavior is fine, her eyes and inner ear look fine, and there's no discharge out of her nares so I'm not too fearful. The wax has a mild musky odor, and unsure about it, I used a soft paintbrush and warm water to remove it, then had her dry before giving her her pool so she could soak again. I feed her on frozen rat and mouse pups along with crickets and mealwormm, they're sometimes loaded with vitamins.
