In Reply to: Why would you say it looks like a hybrid??????????first of posted by rainmaker on April 04, 2003 at 12:08:09:
Agreed. Nelsoni and sinaloae are (taxonomically) subspecies or geographic races of the same animal, and are much more similar to each other than other members of the L. triangulum group. There are minor variations in scale counts and triad pattern and head markings (width and location of first white band) but even those differences can overlap. It is extremely difficult to tell the difference between the two by just looking at the animal...the differences in morphology are negligible.
:All even if it was a siniloan and a nelsoni it WOULDN'T be a hybrid.A hybrid is a cross with two differant species?
:We have gone over this so many times but I will say it one more time.Nelsoni and siniloans are the same snake. There is no brake in there range and they do look differant from one end to the other but they are the same snake.
:Why don't we just split up all the gentilis because they look differant from colorado and kansas???????????????
:I could go on and on but I gets old..
