You also want to include the price of two good thermometers to measure the bottom temps, and the cost of the substrate, which can be newspaper, paper towels, indoor/outdoor carpet cut to size, aspen, or even old towels. You need two hide boxes, which can just be old cardboard boxes or tubes that you recycle. A snake likes to have them close fitting. You will need a milksnake book, but they are pretty cheap, also.
You can buy mice online for pretty cheap, it is the cost of shipping that can double the price. You can keep mice in your freezer for about 6 months if you have them in quality ziplock freezer bags and use a separate freezer (as opposed to a refrigerator/freezer combo). Make sure that your tank has a totally escape proof lid with those locks that clip on each corner. Milksnakes are renowned in the snake world as the best escape artists.
The real high costs are the fact that once you have one snake, you will need another, and then another, and then you will find the snake of your dreams, and then.....
