Definitely get a screen top, there is no problem with putting a heat lamp on the screen top, at least I havent had any.
However I would recomed getting an Under Tank Heater to replace the heat lamp, i wouldnt say its something thats necessary, but I thinks its better, maybe someone else can say more about that.
