I use Vita-sand, which is calcium carbonate like calci-sand only much finer. I even have my babies on it and they are all fine.

:2. I have just put her some new moss in her humid hide and she won't go in it now :( is she just scared of it?

Some of my moist hides have paper towel and others have perilite. They seem to like the perilite more to lay eggs and the paper towel ones more to just lay in.
