:I know almost all these forums use crickets for feedings so I am posting on a few different forums (so I apologize for the repeated post for those of you who skip frm toads to geckos to newts etc) What can I do to keep my crickets from smelling so bad. I have them in tupper-ware with holes. I feed them veggies, fish flakes, oatmeal, fruit, whatever. And even if I clean there 'house' every day, they always STINK sooo bad. They are dirtier than any animal I have every had!!! Ewwww help!!!! Do you guys have any secrets you do?

When they smell, they are dieing, and dead crix in your container will cause the other crix to go down hill fast.

It sounds to me like they might not be warm enough, and also that there is not adequate ventilation. Try to find a container that the crix cannot climb, that way you can leave the lid off to provide maximum airflow. Another alternative is a lid made mostly of screen material. Also, I’d suggest that you find a way to keep your crix warm. I use an incandescent bulb hung just inside the lip to the container. Avoid feeding the crix table scraps, I’ve found that potato, apples, and carrots work best. I agree the dumb crix are harder to care for than my leos, but its usually just a matter of meeting their needs.
