It depends on the snakes and it depends on city/county laws. Best thing to do is call your city clerk, they should be able to help you out, or see if your city/town has a web-site. Venomous reptiles are different the whole way around, you need a permit from the NYSDEC's special license unit.
NYC has much stricter laws than other parts of NY state, I'm not sure if Long Island would fall under the "city" guidelines.

:Hi I was wondering if any body knows the NY laws for keeping snakes??? I live on Long Island I am not sure if the laws differ from upstate or NYC . Not sure of those laws either.
