Like all of these post....you will have to get ahold of the state, county, and city ( if you live in a city limits ) to find these question and read, read , read all that pertains to reptiles and exotics. Going by the revised edition of the FIELD GUIDE TO REPTILES AND THE LAW, you can not legally own the AMERICAN ALLIGATOR without some kind of permit. They are classified as protected species of that state. It doesn't state a permit is required to keep CAIMENS nor are they part of the restricted animals. At least state wise. Your city and township may other laws in effect though as many cities and townships do. The revised edition of this book is probably outdated by now so I would very much encourage you to check out what is what. How about a local or state reptile society ?
