HSUS herp ban...should we start worrying yet?

I've just started to see some posts about the proposed national herp ban, but when I checked the HSUS press release on the proposal, it was dated 2001!!

Is this something that all herpers should worry about? Is this a serious threat to our hobby? If so, why does the petition (I've only seen one) have only about 7000 signitures on it!? Surely there are many more herpers than that who would like to keep their animals!

If this is a serious threat that we should squash ASAP, please let me know...if I have to raise a stink the likes of which has never been seen in order to keep herps, I will gladly do so. I certainly have the time to collect signatures and raise awareness of HSUS ignorance!
