Definately contact Maine's wildlife department - there should be a website that lists a contact point. They actually have cage size requirements and so forth, for wildlife in captivity. Mostly it's for zoos, but it's pretty good. Maine is one of the few state agencies that considers ALL animals sold in the state, not just the native ones.

:Maine has an interesting policy on herps such as iguanas. They require a permit and don't let the pet stores sell them. It is to protect the poor lizard.
