Cage Size ??

I've decided to enter the exciting world of building my own cages for my collection!! I acquired an adult Speckled Kingsnake about 2 weeks ago who is about 5 feet long and living in a 36 inch by 18 inch glass tank. He is very active and curious so I want to get him into something bigger. What size does everyone think would be best? Do Kingsnakes like some height for climbing or do they stick to the ground mostly? I also have a year and a half old California King and I'll probably build him something the same size. Thanks everyone!!
