help with my new speckled kingsnake

Hello, someone i knew just gave me a speckled kingsnake. It was wild caught when it was young, and sence then is still eating on live mice. I was wondering what is the best way to get the snake to start to eat frozen mice. The snake is pretty big now, being around 3ft.. How much growing does he have? And is there a way i can tell if its a male or female? Its not tame at all, biteing me 3 times today, luckly i had gloves on. He's a beautiful snake, and i would like him to be very happy and healthy, so please anyone who can help me please do.. ^_^
