::) It is a defensive action to ward off predators. Garters, rattlesnakes, gopher snakes come to mind, and I'm sure a lot of others do as well.
:But I've never heard of a corn snake musking.....

I know in muskrats and beavers the musk is used to attract females and control territory, but I was not sure exactly why snakes did it. I have heard that kings do it a lot. I used to raise boas and they never did it.
