I'm also fairly new to the world of snakes, but I just purchased a beautiful female Knob and she is so tame and sweet. I did consider the durango which I think is also quite beautiful, but I'm very happy with my choice. Even my friends who are deathly afraid of snakes love her because she's so sweet. So I'd say there's nothing common about them, they're great snakes.
