Hi,
I live in prime zonata habitat, usually see about 1-3 a year, although last year I didnt see even one, but I only went out looking a few times last year, I've been out once already this year. If your planning on catching some, make sure you have a valid fishing license, and with that the rule is you can only take one. But good luck finding that one. I've talked to people who have looked for them for a long time without ever seeing one, then again I know people who have seen up to 10 in one day, in the same rock pile. Well good luck and please be carefull with the rock piles, in the last couple years I've seen a few rock piles just destroyed, its awfull. And also, about beeing finicky eaters, they can be, I've had some over the years take pinks right after catching, but some only want lizards, usually after a while they accept mice, I only have 1 zonata now, I caught him may 5th. 1995, I'm guessing he was about 8-10 years old when I caught him, hes about 37-39 inches, and a male, I'm thinking his last years are comming up on him though, he came out of hibernation this year looking really skinny, and still hasnt ate yet. Hope some of this info is usefull ?, well good luck again,
