substrate for brooks king

what do you think i should use i have a new tank for my brooks and i am thinking about putting down that reptile carpet instead of another substrate, should i just use teh reptile carpet alone? or do you think brooks enjoy diggin in the substrate too much, so i should put the substrate on top of it?
