Yeah, mine's just settling in so he's burried all the time. I'm going to wait for it to poke its head out as my cue to try the first feeding attempt.
Oh, and aspen's great, I use it for all my snakes (it's pretty much all I had anyway). It is cheaper than carefresh (from what I've seen) since it comes compressed in bales instead of loose in bags so you get more per bag. Although I don't know how much better it would be than carefresh for drying out the cage as it's a dry substrate too. I never had a problem with it totally dessicating the cages like I've heard of carefresh doing though. Aspen also holds tunnels pretty well. As for the shedding problem, I thought you could mist carefresh? (at least it said you could in the ad for it) you would have to provide a moist box or something if you had that problem with aspen as you can't mist it(it'l mold).
