I only have one indigo at this time, a 2002 female. Given the value of these snakes & the fact that so little is known at this time regarding housing multiples together, I don't know if I personally would try it. I am encouraged to hear that some of you have done or are doing this with no problems. It sure would save a lot of space if this is indeed a non-issue.
As for using multiple hide spots, I too am beginning to wonder if it's required. I currently use 3 hide spots. 1 is on the cool end of the cage & this is the one that is used 99% of the time. I also have one in the center of the cage & another @ the warm end of the cage. In the latter I use moist paper towels as substrate & have found that she does on rare occaisions utilize this hide box.
