The snakes do seem very healthy, I caught a 7’4”, 4.3 kg male just the other day- he is in great shape.
To answer some of your questions- I do plan to monitor weight changes over time as well as growth (length). I plan to recapture the snakes about once per season to get new measurements and check on the overall health of the animal. Any more than once per season and the movement data may be impacted. We have thought about looking at possible connections between body condition/weight and habitat quality -intuitively it seems likely that there could be a correlation.
I also plan to look at population size and density using my tracked snakes and other marked snakes at the sites. I have some excellent professors on my committee who are working with population monitoring and measurements. In addition, the radiotelemetry data in conjunction with mark-recapture data will be used for survival estimations.
