I tell ya I need em after that foto. Theres very few snakes I'd never trust free around my face w/o glasses on... & those red demons are darn sure one of them. They are beautiful & the way they flow thru the sonoran scrub, is truly a sight to behold, as one rarely gets to actually hold them (see my recent post on that forum...) We even have coal black ones in S. central az.
One day I'd like to maintain a big, bone colored Fl. specimen...
Well some folks think pitbulls can be trusted too, mebbe after the good doctor calms me down...Ill be able to review that foto again, scrutinize those booger slides & realize the world really is a safe....friendly place...just ask that happy bunster!

:Relax RR, if I plunked that snakes in my own flesh & blood progeny's lap it's because I carefully evaluated the specimen to be nearly unprovoquable beforehand. I poked that thing in the shnoze and everything, trying to ellicit some hint of defensive dehavior: nada!
: Bear in mind these things aren't freshly plucked from some creosote bush in the chapparal landscape of West Texas. These have spend all their lives inside some guy's glass tank, and haven't bit him all during that time either apparently. And after having spent 36 years of my life handling snakes, you have to give me a little credit for "reading" a snake's behavior to some extent, even after a short time handling it. These two red guys are complete powder puffs I tell you. They don't even try to get away when I grap them in their cages.
: I have never had the pleasure of catching a wild one myself, but I've been made well aware of their rep through other friends who have done so on multiple occasions, as if it wasn't enough reading about it in every book with a passage on coachwhips!
: It's funny, I got the same reaction from people when I had little Marianne do the same pose with one of my PERFECTLY TAME amazon tree boas. I wonder why...? People can be so unbelieving!
