HaHa, RxR's napping seems he got a well deserved whupping in R-ball this AM...I'd say that YT just needs some sunshine...ya-otta get him down here B4 the poor thing looks as gnarly as a Pituophis.


: This is a close-up of my male Y/T's butt end. Easy to see the partial, truncated keels on the top rows of scales, situated near the cephalic end of each scale.
: First 3 rows from the belly don't seem to have any, and they appear more prominent at the caudal end of the snake, as I couldn't see any on the neck of the animal. Female doesn't have them, nor do the young male juveniles for all I could see when I used my digital camera as a macroscope.

: So not only does it appear to be genus specific, but it is also an ontogenic phenomenon (in males only) as well. At this point I'd be very surprised to hear of an adult male of either of the other sp and ssp from Texas to Argentina that didn't have them.
