:Really nice post. The snake from Mazatlan was certainly a rubidus. The snakes from Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas and San Luis Potosi are certainly erebenus. The snake in the other photo you plotted on the map but didn't mention the locality. Was that snake truly as gray as it looks? Was it from the state of Veracruz around the Jalapa, Huatusco, Cordoba, Acatlan area? The ranges of erebenus, orizabensis, and melanurus in Mexico are not well known and very ill-defined. That specimen is very likely an intergrade. What was the elevation and habitat like in the area it was found. There is lots of new stuff in Mexico that has yet to be named and loads of new range extensions for various herps are found every year. Most of these don't get published in American scientific journals unless an American was directly involved, so most American herpers (even the ones who actually read scientific journals) don't have a clue what's going on in Mexico unless they've got contacts down there.
