From the viewpoint of one who has attended a great many IHS meetings over the years, my impression is that the focus of the IHS has not always been primarily "herpetological." In fact, in my experience the IHS flirtation with "herpetology" is a relatively recent phenomenon, as much of the content of these annual conferences prior to the early 1990s was certainly largely related to herpetocultural aspects of amphibians and reptiles which is certainly obvious from reviewing any bibliographic listing of the papers included in the symposium proceedings from the era.
