Sounds like thermo regulating to me too.We live in Fla and Cirsis and the kids are out almost everyday in the sunshine.We have their basking spot by the pool and there is an umbrella and hide box there for them if they need it.Cirsis and Tigger(bd) actually go into the pool to help cool off.Cirsis also loves to lounge on her barge in the direct sun,but very rarely gapes.Keep watch on your baby and see if in the sun is the only time he's doin this.
